Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the academic self-efficacy levels of health management students.

Metarial and Methods: Self-Efficacy Scale of Academic and Personal Information Form were used in the study. The universe of the study comprised Health Management students of Selçuk University Faculty of Health Sciences (N= 600). The questionnaire was electronically sent to all students in the universe, and 237 questionnaires were answered. Data were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 program. Nonparametric test techniques were used in the analyses according to the normality test. In comparisons, Mann-Whitney U was used for pair-wise comparisons and Kruskal-Wallis H test was used for over two groups. In addition, correlations between both general and dimensions performed simple linear and multiple regression analyses. The Cronbach‘s alpha of the scale was very reliable as 0.953.

Findings: In this study, academic self-efficacy levels of students were analyzed in terms of variables such as education, gender, age, grade, and economic situation. About 70% of the participants are female students. Second-grade students’ participation level is higher than other grades. The percentage of mothers graduated with primary school is higher than the rate of fathers graduated with primary school. Percentage of fathers with the bachelor’s degrees is much higher than that of mothers. Household income of ¼ of the participants is above 3600 TL. While academic self-efficacy and sub-dimensions differ according to class level, they do not differ according to gender and parental education. While the academic self-efficacy and sub-dimensions significantly differ according to the students’ grade levels, it does not differ according to the parents' (father) educational status. Academic self-efficacy and sub-dimensions differ according to the students’ grades and monthly average income.

Results: As a result of the findings of the study, it was found that academic effort and academic planning affected the academic problems.
