Abstract

The fact that pharmaceutical expenditures have an important place in health expenditures and that the physician is the key and the main treatment in treatment increases the interest of pharmaceutical companies and health policy practitioners in physicians. Dentists prescribe antibiotics at a rate of 10% in the world. This situation causes pharmaceutical companies to weaken their marketing towards dentists. This study aims to identify factors related to dentists' knowledge levels that affect drug prescribing. It is an originally published study on dentists' prescribing behaviour. The research, 152 surveys were applied to dentists in Sivas province by calculating the sample using the convenience sampling method, and 145 appropriate surveys were used. Difference analyzes were made on the data obtained according to demographic characteristics, and parametric tests were used since the data did not show a normal distribution. According to the results obtained in the research, it can be stated that the prescribing behaviour of dentists is affected by factors such as clinical effectiveness, safety, patient compliance, promotional materials, congress supports, frequency of medical promotion representative visits, the similarity of the drug name to the active ingredient, and the results obtained are compatible with the literature.
