Abstract

Projects of various sizes initiated and realized in the aviation, space, and defence industries increase daily, and pertinent resources allocated and utilized in the relevant context significantly rise. Good project management practices are unquestionably vital to ensure projects' success concerning scope, cost, and schedule dimensions. Project leaders are the actors who have critical roles in planning and applying good project management practices. Based on these realities, a qualitative investigation has been carried out by considering the views of project leaders experienced in aviation, space, and defence industry project management applications. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 58 experienced project leaders. As a result of this study, 23 elements of success factors and opportunities for improvement in the context of project management applications in the aviation, space, and defence industries were identified and discussed. It is evaluated that these outcomes can be helpful for organizations wanting to improve their project management and relevant performance and provide salient support to enhance the relevant body of knowledge.
