Abstract

ChatGPT is a chatbot designed to understand textual responses and create new replies using a text-based interface. Developed by OpenAI in November 2022, this application is an artificial intelligence-based large language model trained on huge text datasets in multiple languages, capable of generating textual responses like humans. This study examined the background and some usage areas of ChatGPT, which is widely used today, and the advantages and disadvantages of its use in the health field were evaluated. The usage areas of ChatGPT, such as marketing, tourism, law, education, software engineering, banking, content and media, and scientific research, are mentioned outside the health field. The areas of use in health are classified as the purpose of use of patients, purposes of use of health personnel, services, databases and public health. It has been seen that advantages in health promotion and health incentive policies can be provided in health communication in the implementation of health services. On the other hand, it has been determined that hallucinations, labour, data security, and ethical and legal problems may occur in the health field. As a result, it has been seen that such applications are inevitable due to the technology age we live in, and it has been emphasized that the usage areas and appropriateness of applications such as ChatGPT should be determined well.
